Lethal Digital (Formally ‘Lethal Graphics’) designed and created an interactive children’s pop-up book for the biggest heavy metal band in the world, Metallica, titled “The Thing That Should Not Be”.

Lee Rekman, Director or Lethal Digital was originally meeting the band members of Metallica prior to the Perth show at Optus Stadium on Thursday, 17th October 2019. Unfortunately due to James Hetfield checking himself back into rehab, the Australian and New Zealand leg of their WorldWired Tour has been postponed.

For more information regarding the cancellation of the tour, click here.

The original goal was to present a creative and inspiring idea that the band had yet to release as official merchandise.

Children’s books are something that Metallica hasn’t really explored too much in recent times, so Lee Rekman wanted to make the most of his brief encounter with the metal giants and wow them with a unique and creative approach whilst appealing to a new, younger audience at the same time.

“I saw an opportunity to potentially work with Metallica on releasing a unique piece of merchandise that future generations could enjoy while upholding the legacy and passion of the world’s greatest metal band.”

Although the original meeting didn’t go ahead, it would have been a shame to not share this book concept with Metallica fans around the world. Since posting these concept images online, the response has been overwhelming.

The Thing That Should Not Be book has been posted out to the band and currently in the hands of one of the band members. Who knows what will happen, or if this concept idea will be taken on board, produced professionally and released as official merchandise. If you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know what might have been.
